ChopChop Family is an innovative non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and teach
children and families to cook real food together. We believe that cooking and eating together as a family is a vital step in resolving the obesity and hunger epidemics.
THE CHOPCHOP FOOD PHILOSOPHY
- We believe in the simple values of cooking together as family and sharing healthy, delicious meals.
- We don’t do calorie counts or post nutrition content, but everything in our publication is reviewed and approved by our medical and nutrition advisors.
- We don’t demonize any individual foods.
WHO LOVES US
"We can debate whether the perfect diet is low in fat, low in carbs or high in protein. But a much more fundamental issue is our relationship with food. ChopChop is introducing a generation of children (and their parents) to cooking, establishing a healthy lifestyle from the start. Keep a copy in your kitchen."
–David Ludwig, MD, PhD, Director, New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center, Boston Children's Hospital
“What makes ChopChop so great is not only Sampson's choice of subject, appealing and respectful design and language, bright colors and surprisingly sophisticated food photography; it's her choice of recipes.“
–Mark Bittman, The New York Times
2013 Publication of the Year
“ChopChop demonstrates that a print publication with the right message can still shine.“
–James Beard Journalism Awards Committee
Parents' Choice Magazine Award (Gold)
"ChopChop's mission is to ‘inspire and teach kids to cook and eat real food with their families.' With a healthy dose of delicious recipes, fun facts about food and cooking, and a format that is very easy for kids to follow, they are clearly succeeding.”
–Parents' Choice Foundation
ChopChop Family, the publisher of ChopChop Magazine, was founded in 2010 by James Beard-nominated cookbook author Sally Sampson. The organization’s mission: To inspire and teach children and families to cook real food together. ChopChop’s vision is to reverse and prevent childhood obesity and hunger.
Through its namesake magazine, ChopChop reaches more than two million families annually. Available in both English and Spanish, the award-winning, quarterly magazine offers nutritious, great-tasting, ethnically diverse and inexpensive recipes, as well as interesting and little-known food facts, Q&A’s and games. Praised for its engaging content by the national press, American Academy of Pediatrics, James Beard Foundation, and Parents’ Choice Foundation, ChopChop is inspiring kids to cook and to be nutritionally curious and literate. ChopChop Family gets kids excited about cooking by working with every sector –public, private and government –to distribute the magazine wherever kids can be found.
While we know that obesity is a multi-layered and very complicated problem, ChopChop Family offers a solution that is both simple and easily achievable: Cook real food at home with your family. Engage your kids and grandkids. Or let them engage you if that’s what it takes.
